Method 1: Use the Shortcuts App (Recommended)

For a built-in method that becomes a reusable tool, you can create a shortcut in the iPhone's Shortcuts app.
  1. Open the Shortcuts app and tap the plus sign (+) to create a new shortcut.
  2. Add Action and search for "Resize Image".
  3. Tap on "Resize Image" and configure the desired image size parameters, setting one dimension to 1000 pixels (you can set the other to "Ask Each Time" or a fixed value).
  4. Tap Done.
  5. (Optional but Recommended) To make the shortcut easily accessible, press and hold the shortcut, tap the details (info) icon, and enable Show in Share Sheet.
  6. To use it, open the Photos app, select your photo, tap the Share icon, and then select the Resize Image shortcut you just created.

Method 2: Use a Third-Party App

Apps like "Image Size" (available on the App Store) are designed for this purpose and are often very simple to use.
  1. Download a photo resizing app from the App Store.
  2. Open the app and import the photo from your camera roll.
  3. Enter the desired dimensions (e.g., 1000 pixels for width or height). Ensure "Scale Proportionally" is enabled to maintain the aspect ratio if needed.
  4. Save the newly resized image back to your photo library.
